BELMOPAN, Belize – The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) through the Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE), and with support of the Taiwan ICDF and the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) hosted a ceremony Tuesday to deliver angel funding to 10 women from across the country, who participated in the Female Entrepreneurship Program.
This latest round of allocations addresses the needs of women entrepreneurs and encourages innovation, granting each woman over BZ$4,000 In funding to help develop their business.
The Female Entrepreneurship Program (FEP), which is designed exclusively for women, seeks to improve their competencies and strengthen their economic empowerment and leadership skills. Women received specialized knowledge and practical tools to identify and take advantage of business opportunities detected through the design of adjustment of solutions and/or products that respond to the market needs, increase their sales and clientele or design new products and services.
Prime minister John Briceno, in his address to the participants, remarked that “women’s economic empowerment is globally recognized as a fundamental human right and should also be a pre-requisite for sustainable development and building inclusive societies.” He also expressed the government’s commitment to support women entrepreneurs with access to finance, markets, technology, mentoring, and other services, while working on improving the laws and policies inhibiting women’s business development and success.
BELTRAIDE congratulates the women on this accomplishment and encourages all Belizeans to support local entrepreneurs, especially women who are the bedrock on which our economies and local communities are built.
