GENEVA, Switzerland, (ILO News) – Almost 1.6 billion informal economy workers are significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to a 60 percent decline in their earnings. For those workers, stopping work or working remotely at home is not an option. Staying home means losing their jobs and, for many, it also means losing their livelihoods.
Prostitution and allied services like sex clubs and pimping, most of which is illegal in most places, would be adversely affected insofar as its unemployed or otherwise economically affected clients would have less money to fund their lustful urges.
On the other hand, “idle hands are the Devil’s workshop” so sex trade workers are probably being less affected than other informal workers especially if the pandemic results in a decrease in service charges.
