The impact of COVID-19 on the informal economy

GENEVA, Switzerland, (ILO News) – Almost 1.6 billion informal economy workers are significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to a 60 percent decline in their earnings. 1. Prostitution and allied services like sex clubs and pimping, most of which is illegal in most places, would be adversely affected insofar as its unemployed or otherwise economically affected clients would have less money to fund their lustful urges.

On the other hand, “idle hands are the Devil’s workshop” so sex trade workers are probably being less affected than other informal workers especially if the pandemic results in a decrease in service charges.
