Allen Chastanet is DONE – he knows that!

EDITORIAL

Allen Chastanet, Member of Parliament (MP) for Micoud South, and leader of the United Workers Party (UWP), and sole opposition member in parliament, who by default becomes Leader of the Opposition (LOO), is politically DONE!

A failed politician pronounced DONE is designated, “Finished, through, or over — it’s no longer happening.” And in the synonym of DONE – “Successfully completed a task and/or are proud of finishing something on your to-do list.”

Efforts to recast DONE on the backdrop of the World Economic Forum (WEF) ongoing in Davos, Switzerland, is an insult to average minds.

The loft of so-called influencers wrote: “Being selected to lead a WEF session, therefore, signals that the individual has been recognised by the global policy and finance community as a relevant voice.”~ St Lucian Patriot.

In the domestic environment, the consummate depletion and reduced outcome of the UWP’s national popularity (votes), and the net reduced effect of one member of parliament sitting on the opposition bench is a recognised failure in totality.

Chastanet has not, and is incapable of elevating Saint Lucia’s profile among the most influential elite policy networks. Not even his friends in Washington DC. Therefore, the efforts of comparative reference to Chastanet and Davos are no less an effort symbolic of being DONE to anyone unable to take advice and execute on any level. Not the least fortunate in Davos.

Chastanet’s perceived global relevance has no domestic rightfulness. Once again, the December 2025 general elections demonstrated that Chastanet commands a declining social, economic, and political appeal with the electoral base, inclusive of messaging subject matters on economics, bread and butter – cost of living issues, the UWP political ethos, law and order and matters of the constitution, not forgetting a leadership style that’s disconnected from the people.

The era of Chastanet is a DONE political experiment!

Chastanet’s performance has marked the end of UWP’s political dominance in Saint Lucia’s social and economic development. And he should know this by now, amid deliberations on the way forward for the UWP. There are reports of many aspirants of viability. However, that’s for another illustration, to which reliance on illusion capitulated the bureaucratic adoration of “no good investors” and pork barrel projects, which rendered no advancement for the people of Saint Lucia.

Micoud South, an agricultural basin of enormous possibilities for Saint Lucia’s food security, is an illusion that has been DONE to the country.

The deaf ear to knowledge and wisdom has been pathetic. Notwithstanding, patterns that are pertinent to the question of “mixed economic brilliance” – the significance provides answers to the thinking on domestic, global economic understanding and political acumen.

The result is NONE and DONE!

Chastanet’s thought process and “wired wrought” help shape the illusion of not understanding the basic aspects of government, business, and civil society. Missing out on these fundamentals ostensibly diverts to aspects, perhaps of “illusion, to trick or deceive,” to what is practical. The electorate proved that point on December 1, 2025.

The academia that surrounded what should have anchored UWP principles and values, and those more talented with enhanced marketability – were stonewalled by the allure of glitter and illusion. This leadership weakness helped solidify that the people’s needs were not properly assimilated, both domestically and internationally.

Through it all, the UWP left out the core of the party, unable to attract swing voters and, likewise, unable to extract the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP), soft supporters and voters.

Public records indicate that the UWP national voter count has diminished steadily since 2016. In 2025, the SLP recorded a popular voter advantage. This is a historic achievement that has rendered the current UWP leadership useless on domestic and international issues.

It is sensible that the mismatch in political, social and economic development goals is hard-headed in UWP leadership, to the disadvantage of Saint Lucia.

Chastanet is DONE!

This is an accomplishment of his making, and fondness, for his ability to be an unlearned politician.

Unable to analyse the advice given both domestically and internationally, coupled with the inability to formulate policy initiatives for the benefit of all, is labelled astonishing. “This amounts to philosophical weakness,” said a political strategist.

The UWP Manifesto cover ostensibly depicts “conquest of a lone-rager” embedded in “Reclaiming our Future.”

This is DONE! An embodiment of a distinction that will not materialise!

The longer the UWP St Lucia national executive continues to show loyalty to Allen Chastanet, and thinks of holding the Micoud South seat as an inheritance has indeed subscribed to logical fallacies and common errors in cognitive argument.
