TORONTO, Canada – Wuhan, China is slowly getting back to normal as the United States intelligence continues the investigation of whether the coronavirus virus originated from a virology institute with a highly secure biosecurity laboratory.
Yuan Zhiming, vice director of the Wuhan Institute of Virology, told Chinese state broadcaster CGTN, that this was a “conspiracy theory” designed to “confuse” people, and denied the virus was manmade. However, it is the first time anyone from the institute has spoken publicly.
“As people who carry out viral study, we clearly know what kind of research is going on in the institute and how the institute manages viruses and samples. As we said early on, there is no way this virus came from us,” said Yuan, a microbiology and biotechnology expert who trained and worked in France, Denmark, and the US for several years,” he added.
“We have a strict regulatory regime and code of conduct of research, so we are confident. We know perfectly well the kind of research we do and how we manage both our viruses and our samples,” he said.
The laboratory has “a strict regulatory regime and investigative code of conduct, so we are confident” that the new coronavirus did not originate from its facilities, Zhiming stressed.
Conspiracy theories do nothing but create fear, rumors, and prejudice, however, many doubt that the coronavirus outbreak came from bat research at the Wuhan Center for Disease Control & Prevention, across the street from the Wuhan seafood market. Others seem convinced that the seafood market is not the only origin of the virus.
Presently, the jury is out on science, data and good old fashion intelligence, while coronavirus transmission around the world is indeed “novel” from SARS, and the genetic sequence of SARS to 2019-nCoV is said to found that they’re about 70 percent similar.
Normally, it’s not possible to contaminate people even if it means civil disobedience and the threat to life. Governments are challenged daily to provide healthcare, law, and order. Scientists are charged with the responsibility of getting a vaccine to combat COVID-19, while frontline workers help treat patients and curb the spread of the virus.
