US Customs and Border Protection to secure 59th presidential inauguration

WASHINGTON, USA – US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is participating in the US Secret Service-led security operations in preparation and support of the 59th presidential inauguration.

CBP routinely contributes its unique capabilities during National Special Security Events (NSSEs), manmade and natural disasters, and other large spectator or high threat events.

One such capability is CBP’s Air and Marine Operations’ aircraft-based, downlink video streaming. This capability provides leadership on the ground a real-time common operating picture of conditions within a security zone. Downlink also provides a real-time damage assessment of impact areas that assist states in prioritizing response areas during disasters.

Another unique CBP capability is CBP’s Office of Field Operations’ mobile non-intrusive inspection technology. CBP can quickly scan vehicles and packages to identify potential threats before those threats can enter a security zone.

CBP is also contributing Air and Marine aircraft and small boat crews to augment airspace and maritime security operations, as well as contributing Border Patrol agents and Field Operations officers to supplement US Secret Service and US Capitol Police security details.

CBP’s border security mission is led at ports of entry by CBP officers from the Office of Field Operations, along US borders by agents from the United States Border Patrol, and from the air and sea by agents from Air and Marine Operations. Learn more about CBP’s border security mission.

CBP’s top priority is to keep terrorists and their weapons from entering the US while welcoming all legitimate travelers and commerce. CBP officers and agents enforce all applicable US laws, including against illegal immigration, narcotics smuggling and illegal importation.
