DPRK missile tests and cyberattack against Ukraine deeply concerning

By Caribbean News Global fav

TORONTO, Canada – On January 14, two separate events, DPRK missile tests and cyberattack against Ukraine has western and European leaders, deeply concerned about national security.

Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office FCDO issued the following statement on the DPRK missile tests that took place on January 14, 2022:

“We are deeply concerned that North Korea has again conducted two short-range ballistic missile tests. These tests are a clear violation of UN Security Council Resolutions and a threat to regional peace and security.

Alongside our allies and partners, the UK is committed to peace on the Korean Peninsula, upholding the rules-based international system and securing an end to North Korea’s illegal activities.

“ It is critical that sanctions which target the DPRK’s unlawful weapons development remain in place while its programmes exist. We urge North Korea to refrain from further provocations, and to return to dialogue with the US.”

Meantime, the European Union strongly condemns the cyberattack against Ukraine on January 14, said:

“This cyber-attack against the Ukrainian government websites is unacceptable. Such actions aim at destabilizing Ukraine and spreading disinformation and could contribute to further escalation of the already tense situation.

Ukraine has reacted quickly and decisively to the attacks thanks to its increased cyber resilience.

The European Union and its Member States are in contact with Ukraine and stand ready to provide additional, direct, technical assistance to Ukraine to remediate this attack and further support Ukraine against any destabilizing actions, including by further building up its resilience against hybrid and cyber threats.

“We reconfirm our unequivocal support to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.”
