ROSEAU, Dominica – Section 50 (1) and (2) of the House of Assembly Elections Act, Chapter 2:01 and Regulation 6 of the Subsidiary Regulation of the House of Assembly (Elections) Regulations is brought to the attention of all who are registered to vote in the General Elections – 2019.
SECTION 50 (1):
“Every employer shall, on polling day, allow every elector employed by him the prescribed period for voting and no employer shall make any deduction from the pay or any such remuneration of any such elector or impose upon or exact from him any penalty by reason of his absence during such period.”
SECTION 50 (2):
“Any employer who, directly or indirectly, refuses, or by intimidation, undue influence, or in any other way, interferes with the granting to any elector employed by him of the prescribed period for voting as in this section provided, is liable on summary conviction to a fine of five hundred thousand dollars or to imprisonment for six months.”
SUBSIDIARY LEGISLATION – SECTION 6:
Every employer shall permit each elector in this employ to be absent from his work on polling day for two hours in addition to the normal midday meal hour.”
