CASTRIES, St Lucia – The Eastern Caribbean Collective Organisation of Musical Rights (ECCO) will observe together with the Registry of Companies and Intellectual property (ROCIP) 26 April 2022, as World Intellectual Property Day.
This year, World Intellectual Property Day is celebrated under the theme “Intellectual Property and Youth: Innovating for a better future.”
World Intellectual Property Day, is normally observed each year and offers a platform for an opportunity to consider the role that Intellectual Property Rights play in encouraging innovation and creativity. The main purpose of this day is to raise awareness of Intellectual Property Rights and to provide a forum for young people to learn how Intellectual Property Rights can support their goals says the Corporate Registrar of ROCIP, Desma Charles.
The ROCIP is the main organizer of the event. The ROCIP has invited other agencies and ECCO Musical Rights Inc., has readily accepted the invitation to be one of the interested parties in ensuring the successful observation of the day. According to the ECCO Musical Rights Inc., chairman David Jordan says: “ We have accepted the invitation as this is a perfect platform to remind ECCO members and raise the awareness of the general public of the importance of Copyright as central in the protection of Intellectual Property and to collaborate with government institutions which impact on the work of ECCO”.
The Registry of Companies and Intellectual property (ROCIP), has organized an open day on Tuesday, 26 April 2022, from 9:00 am at the car park of Hewanorra House, Pointe Seraphine, Castries.
The open day will take the form of an interactive display featuring an information desk by the registry which will cover the registration process of IP alongside individual desks of key stakeholders who provide support to young creators and innovators.
ECCO Musical Rights Inc., has accepted the invitation to collaborate with the ROCIP and will present a portrayal of the work of the organization which will highlight the registration process for members’ musical works while utilizing electronic media.
