USAFacts Releases the State of the Earth Report and Announces a Collaboration With Earth Day to Help Americans Access the Facts

BELLEVUE, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#USAFactsUSAFacts, a not-for-profit, nonpartisan civic initiative providing the most comprehensive and understandable single source of government data, today announced the release of its USAFacts State of the Earth report and a collaboration with Earth Day Network, the global non-profit organizers of Earth Day.

Sourced from the Environmental Protection Agency, the US National Park Service, USDA Forest Service Forest/Wildlife, the Energy Information Administration, and other government entities, the USAFacts State of the Earth report helps readers explore the current state of our environment and a myriad of questions related to energy, emissions, climate, air, water and land.

The first Earth Day in 1970 mobilized 20 million citizens in a nonpartisan movement to meet environmental challenges of the time. More than 1 billion people now participate in Earth Day activities each year, making it the largest civic observance in the world. In commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, USAFacts is collaborating with Earth Day to ensure that data-based reports and facts about the health of our environment are accessible for millions of people who are passionate about environmental protection and sustainability.

Throughout USAFacts and Earth Day Network’s collaboration, people who visit USAFacts and earthday.org, their social and partner channels, and tune into Earth Day Network’s 50th anniversary livestream will be able to access:

  • Environmental data, facts and infographics.
  • The new USAFacts State of the Earth report.
  • Discussions led by spokespersons for both organizations.
  • Fact-based public service announcements.

Additional Earth Day support is being provided by Google and Twitter.

Amid the recent COVID-19 global pandemic, Earth Day Network was forced to forgo traditional public gatherings, and has since built an online platform that will serve as the first Digital Earth Day. USAFacts collaboration with Earth Day Network has played a crucial role in placing science and nonpartisan information at the forefront of Earth Day’s digital event.

“Earth Day Network has always anchored its work in hard science,” said Denis Hayes, Earth Day Network founder and the organizer of the first Earth Day. “When your mission is to promote human health and a sustainable future, facts matter. Amid the COVID-19 crisis, while Americans stay home—more exposed than ever to irresponsible claims and whacko theories on social media—having USAFacts available as a source of objective, trustworthy data is invaluable.”

“USAFacts believes the American people deserve to have a portrait of our nation in numbers so we, as citizens, can determine if the country is moving in the right or wrong direction,” said former Microsoft CEO and USAFacts founder Steve Ballmer. “As people think through their views on the environment, we believe, as does Earth Day, that they need the actual government data to inform their views.”

This year’s USAFacts State of the Earth report delivers on USAFacts’ mission by helping readers compare how the US compares worldwide based on:

  • Renewable energy consumption
  • Emissions
  • The government’s role in managing our environment, including public lands and other popular environmental topics.

The USAFacts State of the Earth report is the latest in a series of fact-based reports and resources it has issued this year. During Q1 2020, USAFacts also released the USAFacts State of the Union in Numbers report and the USAFacts Coronavirus Hub and Map, a frequently updated resource for pandemic data and facts.
