TORONTO, Canada – After extensive research, the government of Taiwan has decided to establish the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO), Montreal, in the Canadian province of Quebec. Preparations are currently underway.
“Taiwan and Canada enjoy increasingly close exchanges across a wide range of domains, including economics and trade, science and technology, supply chains, culture and education, and indigenous affairs,” the ministry of foreign affairs (MOFA) Republic of China (Taiwan) said in the press release.
“Canada is a bilingual country, with English and French as its official languages. Its French-speaking population mainly lives in Quebec, a province that accounts for nearly a quarter of Canada’s total population. Montreal is the largest city in Quebec, the second-largest city in Canada, and a key Francophone city in Canada and North America. It is widely known as a Canadian hub for technology industry clusters, which points to significant room for cooperation in such areas as electric vehicles and artificial intelligence. Montreal is also home to the headquarters of the International Civil Aviation Organization and hosts missions from the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, France, and other countries.”
Moreover, noted MOFA, the government of Canada recently announced a comprehensive strategic report resolving to deepen diversified relationships with partners in the Indo-Pacific region.
Canada particularly aims to enhance economic and people-to-people ties with Taiwan and further develop the bilateral partnership in science, technology, and innovation. Taiwan’s establishment of a new office in Montreal will lend impetus to further cooperation and exchanges between the two countries.
“Going forward, TECO Montreal will work in a concerted effort with Taiwan’s representative office and its two other offices in Canada to provide better services to overseas compatriots. And building on the excellent existing foundation, will contribute to further deepening reciprocal and mutually beneficial cooperation between Taiwan and Canada in multiple domains, strengthening people-to-people friendships, and jointly forging a prosperous Indo-Pacific,” MOFA advised, with an office in the Canadian city of Montreal, Quebec to promote bilateral exchanges and cooperation.
