Putin meets with head of the BRICS Bank

ST PETERSBURG, Russia – On Wednesday, 26 July, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with the head of the BRICS New Development Bank, Dilma Rousseff, at the Konstantinovsky Palace in Strelna.

“Relations between the BRICS countries are developing in national currencies, settlements are increasing. In this regard, it seems to me, the bank can play a prominent role in the development of the management of our joint activities” ¬ Vladimir Putin, president of Russia.

For her part, Rousseff referred to the challenges faced by the world and the BRICS Bank and noted the importance of mutual settlements in national currencies among developing countries.

“The world is now facing a number of challenges, developing countries have the hardest time. The bank has an important role to play in the emergence of a multipolar world. We must be determined to raise funds in the markets of partner countries. I believe there is no obstacle to countries in the developing world conducting foreign trade transactions in national currencies,” she said.

“We are well aware of the difficulties that developing countries face in raising funds. They need resources to finance infrastructure projects, to build digital logistics and to protect the environment,” added Rousseff.

The head of the BRICS New Development Bank also praised the initiative of the Russia-Africa Summit, which is dedicated to the mutual relationship between the Russian Federation and the developing states of the African continent.

“The next BRICS summit will be a very important event, including for the New Development Bank, as the issue of expanding the institution by including countries from the developing world will be raised,” she concluded.

Former president of Brazil (2011-2016) Dilma Rousseff was elected as the head of the BRICS New Development Bank on 24 March of this year in Shanghai.
