DHS – ICE continues to conduct removal flights weekly

– DHS conducted more than 1.2 million expulsions, removals, returns in first half of fiscal year 2023

WASHINGTON, USA – During the first half of fiscal year (FY) 2023, the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) increased removals and returns to 225,483, up from 170,896 over the same period in FY 2022.

The FY 2023 figures include nearly 66,000 removals, 48,381 of which were conducted via US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) removal flights and are in addition to US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) total southwest land border Title 42 expulsions, which reached 1,079,507 in that same timeframe.

With the end of the Title 42 public health Order, DHS and ICE will continue to enforce US immigration laws with the return to expedited removal proceedings under Title 8 authorities, which carry stricter consequences such as a minimum five-year ban on reentry and potential criminal prosecution for unlawful reentry.

Those with a final removal order will be promptly removed because of new agreements with multiple countries to accept more return flights. Noncitizens should use existing lawful pathways rather than attempt to cross the border illegally between ports of entry. DHS and ICE are committed to humanely and effectively enforcing the nation’s immigration laws.

DHS has made videos available to the public and the media including b-roll footage of removal flights, a public service announcement, and testimonials from migrants who were removed.
