Cuba – Belarus signs protection and classified information agreement

By TeleSUR

HAVANA, Cuba – Belarusian prime minister Roman Golovchenko arrived in Havana Tuesday to sign agreements related to the mutual protection of classified information.

Cuban prime minister Manuel Marrero highlighted the existing potential to strengthen economic and commercial relations between the two nations. During the talks, they referred to the excellent bilateral relations and the mutual interest in developing ties between the two countries, especially in the economic-commercial sphere.

The Cuban prime minister identified the main sectors of interest for cooperation as food production, the medical-pharmaceutical industry, biotechnology, industry, and banking finance.

During his previous meeting in Minsk in November 2023, Marrero was received by Belarusian president Alexandr Lukashenko, who advocated for revitalizing bilateral economic relations and elevating them to the level of their political and humanitarian engagements.

“Belarus and Cuba have built an excellent relationship at the political level. We are ready to continue advancing in all areas of common interest,” Golovchenko said.

Belarusian-Cuban relations, traditionally warm and friendly since the Soviet era, have experienced a new momentum in the past year, with agreements signed and high-level visits exchanged. In November 2023, representatives of the Armed Forces of Belarus and Cuba agreed on a military cooperation plan.

This year, the head of the Cuban Armed Forces, Gen. Alvaro Lopez, visited the European country to participate in the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi occupation. In June, Cuban deputy prime minister Ricardo Cabrisas also visited Belarus to agree on industrial cooperation mechanisms.
