Belize – Taiwan ICDF host lamb culinary workshop in Cayo

BELMOPAN, Belize – The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise (MAFSE), in collaboration with the International Cooperation and Development Fund’s (TaiwanICDF) Breeding Sheep and Goat Production and Guidance System Enhancement Project (Sheep Project Phase II), on, Wednesday, held a Lamb Culinary Workshop and Field Day in Succotz Village, Cayo District.

The workshop aimed to train sheep farmers, butchers, and restaurateurs in culinary skills to increase the consumption of the lamb and mutton products in Belize. The training sessions included ingredients preparation and the cooking processes of stew lamb, lamb chop suey and barbecue lamb, which was facilitated by Frank Padron, extension officer from the ministry. Ken Wu and Jimmy Hsu, TaiwanICDF assistant technicians, presented on sheep nutrition and animal health.

Fifteen sheep and goat farmers, butchers, and restaurateurs from the Cayo District and ten delegates from the ministerio de agricultura, Ganaderia y Alimentacion from Guatemala participated in the workshop.

The collaboration forms part of a memorandum of agreement signed between the governments of Belize and Guatemala in 2022 to support advancements and development in technical areas such as livestock, agro-processing, fruit trees, research, innovation, and technological transfer.

Taiwan ICDF Lamb Culinary Workshop in Cayo

The workshop is another Sheep Project Phase II commitment to help local farmers in Belize. The governments of Belize and the Republic of China (Taiwan) are committed to working together to support Belizean farmers and strengthen the sheep and goat industry.
