By Government of Barbados

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, (GIS) – Recently, in a visionary effort to strengthen its medical capabilities, the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding with Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM).

The agreement represents a significant step toward improving training, capacity-building, and the overall medical experience for members of the Force. The signatories were Brigadier Carlos Lovell, Chief of Staff; Alejandro Carrasco, Interim Dean, and Dr Rhonda McIntyre, Senior Associate Dean, External Affairs of Ross University School of Medicine.

During his remarks, Dean Carrasco (RUSM) noted that this partnership represents an important step in RUSM’s desire to deepen connections with the BDF and a great opportunity for RUSM students to gain unique learning experiences.

Brigadier Lovell emphasized the BDF’s enthusiasm for the partnership, describing it as a unique opportunity to elevate the medical environment for both practitioners and recipients. He underscored the BDF’s role not only as a military institution but also as a committed community and corporate partner.

“This collaboration reflects our dedication to improving the health and wellness of our personnel,” Brigadier Lovell stated, adding that the Force looks forward to expanding its relationship with Ross University through future initiatives.

The partnership is envisaged to yield long-term benefits in clinical training, medical service delivery, and inter-institutional cooperation, reinforcing the BDF’s mission readiness and holistic support for its members.
