An uninspiring Throne Speech: We need the Dame back!

Dear Sir

It is perhaps with reason that the Acting Governor General of Saint Lucia, Cyril Errol Melchiades continues to be acting, mid-term in the life of the Government of Saint Lucia.

The inquiry is more precise having listened to the Throne Speech at the Opening of the Third Session of the Twelfth Parliament of Saint Lucia, on April 25, 2023.

“In practical terms – What a joke of a Throne Speech, both in delivery and content. Uninspiring and shameful,” noted a source at the joint sitting of parliament, today.

The take-off from the Throne Speech renders:

  • Did yesterday’s activity – a presumptive Lodge gathering on the Island had an effect?
  • Did the Acting Governor-General rehearsed the contents?
  • Was there sufficient time for practice the delivery?

Here in the comment: “We need the Dame back!” Former Governor General Dame Pearlette Louisy. A class act in many ways, including language, delivery, personality and connection with the people.

Another reporter at the House of Assembly disclosed: “If the Throne Speech is scripted and practised, why was the presentation so disjointed, and shafted at the same time?”

The media practitioner continued: “The Acting Governor General of Saint Lucia looks uncomfortable reading and/or being there!”

“Is he just having a bad day?” another cited. “We all have bad days!”

Perhaps that’s true, stuck for many days and perhaps years with impassive and unimpressive parliamentarians. The expression on the many faces looked jaded and dependable – in the magnetism of governance. How fascinating!

Sincerely,

Helen Troy
