By Caribbean News Global contributor

CASTRIES, St Lucia – The Hunter J Francois Library under The Sir Arthur Lewis Community College launched their annual WORRRD Up Poetry Slam on November 23, 2021, which saw 8 out of 16 poets advance to the WORRRD Up Poetry Slam Finals on  January 28, 2022.

In the preliminary round, Callum James, more popularly known as The Poet, decorated the stage with his piece called “Master Class,” which was an explosion of a fresh wave of talent which demonstrated the adept use of wordplay and literary elements to bring out themes that need to be addressed in Saint Lucian society and by extension the Caribbean reality.

In the final, he permeated into the persona of the “Master” as he performed his piece with elite level grace and elite level mastery of his poem “Master Class.”

For the audience, it was an event to remember as the seven other poets put their best foot forward, however the performance of “Master Class” was truly Callum James emanating legendary energy on his quest to become a full-blooded master of performance poetry and as a consequence, secured him the victory.

Here’s a link to all the performances.
