Ethiopia earns US$1 billion from coffee exports in ten months

ETHIOPIA, Africa, (TV BRICS) – Director-General of the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority (ECTA) Adugna Debela told ENA that Ethiopia’s coffee exports are increasing every year.

Some 210,000 tonnes of coffee have been shipped to the world market in the last ten months, a significant increase over the same period last year.

Adugna noted that Ethiopia exports coffee to more than 50 countries, adding that efforts are being made to expand the geography of Ethiopian coffee exports.

In addition, efforts to promote coffee, including organising exhibitions and other events in different countries, are being actively pursued. He noted that China, Sudan and the United Arab Emirates have now started actively buying this Ethiopian product.

The director-general also emphasised that a modern system has been put in place to prevent illegal transactions in the coffee trade and improve the efficiency of foreign trade in the sector.
