WASHINGTON, USA — The new permanent representative of the Dominican Republic, Josué Fiallo, on Friday presented his credentials to the secretary-general of the Organization of American States, Luis Almagro, during a ceremony at the headquarters of the hemispheric institution.
The Dominican Republic is one of the 21 founding countries of the OAS.
Ambassador Fiallo stressed that his country and the OAS share the same values. “On behalf of the president, Danilo Medina, I want to reiterate the commitment of the Dominican Republic to the four pillars of the Organization: democracy, human rights, sustainable development, and multidimensional security,” said the Dominican diplomat.
For his part, secretary-general Almagro said that the Dominican Republic is a key actor in meeting the objectives of the Inter-American agenda. “The OAS has important challenges ahead to generate spaces that give our people more security, more equity, and better development conditions and the Dominican Republic is a fundamental partner in this venture,” added the secretary-general.
