US State Department releases women, peace, and security implementation plan

By Caribbean News Global fav

WASHINGTON, USA – The United States is leading by example in women’s empowerment on the global stage, announced the  Department of State Plan to Implement the U.S. Strategy on Women, Peace, and Security.

“The strategy focuses on supporting women leaders around the world who make contributions to global security, including by ensuring the Department and its personnel have the necessary skills and tools to carry out this important mission.

“Supporting women’s meaningful participation to maintain peace, stem conflict, and counter-terrorism leads to better security and economic outcomes for communities and countries around the world. The Department of State’s Implementation Plan lays out concrete steps to achieve our national security goals by addressing women’s underrepresentation in efforts to prevent conflict and promote security,” the Department of State release said.

Together with the implementation plans of the US Agency for International Development and the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security, our diplomatic efforts will reinforce US national security by advancing the role of women in generating solutions to global challenges.

“With the signing of the Women, Peace, and Security Act of 2017  the United States became the first nation with a comprehensive law on this agenda, reaffirming our strong, bipartisan recognition that when women fully participate in civic and economic life, nations are more prosperous and peaceful,” the release stated.

President Donald Trump released the U.S. Strategy on Women, Peace, and Security in 2019, which seeks to increase women’s meaningful participation in peace and security by ensuring they are empowered to lead and contribute; equipped with the necessary skills and support to succeed; and supported to participate through access to opportunities and resources.

The US Department of State joins the Departments of Defense, and Homeland Security, and the United States Agency for International Development to take another bold step forward with the submission of our respective implementation plans.

“The US Department of State’s Implementation Plan outlines and commits Department talents and resources to advance this foreign policy and national security priority to empower women globally,” the statement said.
