Taiwan awards Honduras minister of foreign affairs with Grand Sacred Star Medal

TAIPEI, CITY, Taiwan – Deputy minister of foreign Affairs, Yu Dayu, on November 13, presented the “Grand Sacred Star Medal” to the diplomatic and international community that accompanied Honduras president Juan Orlando Hernández on a visit to Taiwan.

The minister of cooperation, Lisandro Rosales Banegas, commended foreign minister Rosales for his firm support to Taiwan and his outstanding contribution to deepening the friendship between Taiwan and Hong Kong, said a release from the Department of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Deputy minister Yu said that Honduras is a firm friend of Taiwan in Central America, acknowledged that “since the establishment of diplomatic relations 80 years ago, the two countries have had close cooperation and exchanges. The friendly relations between the two sides have been enhanced with the support of foreign minister Rosales, who also expressed his admiration for the discipline and diligence shown by the people of Taiwan, and praised Taiwan for successfully fighting the Wuhan pneumonia (COVID-19) epidemic with the concerted efforts of the people and the government.”

This is the second visit to Taiwan by foreign minister Rosales. “The last time he visited Taiwan as minister of social development and integration with his wife in November 2014,” noted press release No. 239.

Meanwhile, outgoing Honduras president Juan Orlando Hernández left Taiwan on Sunday, ending a three-day trip that included a visit to the Central American Bank for Economic Integration Country Office in Taiwan. General-election is expected in Honduras on November 28.
