By Caribbean News Global fav

TAIWAN / ST KITTS – The epidemic has forced many countries to accelerate new ways of thinking about how and where to work, with remote offices and online meetings a new norm. With the explosive demand for digital services however, information security has once again become an issue of public concern.

The International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) has not only assisted St Kitts and Nevis in the digitalization of the Land Administration Information System but also helped St Kitts and Nevis National ICT Center establish its own information security incident management mechanism and operations continuity plan.

The ICT center has also significantly raised awareness about the importance of information security to all members through numerous case studies, exercises and educational training. Following the guidance provided by the Taiwan Technical Mission in St. Kitts and Nevis, the ICT center has now also passed the ISO 27001 authentication, receiving the country’s first ever cyber security certificate from the BSI (British Standards Institution).

The certification presentation ceremony was held on April 6, 2022. The certificate was presented by H.E. Michael Chau-Horng Lin, Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in St Kitts and Nevis, to Cheryleann Pemberton, permanent secretary of the ministry of entrepreneurship and communications.

In attendance were other officials from the ministry of justice and legal affairs, the ministry of entertainment and talent development, the Bureau of Standards, the Inland Revenue Department, the Treasury, the Customs Department to witness the important milestone, which demonstrated the Federation’s determination in its efforts to conform to international information security standards.

Following St Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia, Belize, St Kitts and Nevis has become the fourth partner country assisted by Taiwan in introducing a mechanism for information security and acquiring the ISO 27001 international standard for authentication. This fully demonstrates the concrete achievements and effectiveness of our ICT assistance.

The TaiwanICDF has implemented a number of ICT cooperation projects in the Caribbean, including digitization of land administration, transportation monitoring services, intelligent bus management and smart education.

Through the introduction of Taiwan’s technology, we helped our partner countries to develop national ICT centers, improve capacity-building of ICT talents, and establish digital systems and operation mechanisms, thereby promoting the digital transformation of government departments in partner countries.

The TaiwanICDF will continue to play a key role in the field of international cooperation development using its technical advantages and working with partner countries to provide a better future for humankind.
