Navy Federal Awards $100,000 to Non-Profits Across the Country

Charities nominated by employees for making positive impacts in local communities

VIENNA, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Navy Federal Credit Union announced today it is donating $100,000 through its Dollars for Doers program. The program awards 100 non-profits with $1,000 grants based upon nominations from employee volunteers. Since the inception of the program, Navy Federal has donated over $750,000 to organizations in the communities where its employees live and serve.

“I’ve volunteered with the Life Enrichment Center for four years, and thanks to Navy Federal, now I can enhance my support with a $1,000 donation to this deserving organization,” said Devail Echols, a business systems analyst at Navy Federal. Echols nominated the Life Enrichment Center in Hampton Roads, Va., which provides literacy tutoring to elementary school students. “I volunteer to make a difference in my community and be a positive impact on the students I tutor. Volunteering is so rewarding and I’m grateful to have an employer that understands the importance of giving back to our communities.”

For the 2020 program, over $40,000 is going to organizations in Florida, where Navy Federal has its largest concentration of employees. Additionally, $25,000 goes to organizations in Virginia, with the remainder of the grants distributed throughout the country. Common charitable causes include food instability, servicemember and veteran support, and diversity and inclusion.

“Supporting my community is something I am passionate about. The Council on Aging of West Florida provides much needed support to seniors in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties,” said Brandi Gomez, corporate communications strategist at Navy Federal. “I love that Navy Federal understands that our mission of service extends into our communities. This grant is going to help make such a difference in my community.”

As a credit union, giving back to members and the communities where Navy Federal employees live and serve is at the core of the organization. Dollars for Doers is one of many ways that Navy Federal supports the community. Navy Federal also supports local communities through its Toys for Tots drive, donating to over 200 non-profit organizations nationally and partnering with numerous organizations in the communities where team members live and serve. The credit union also empowers employees to volunteer in their communities by providing eight hours of paid volunteer leave annually through the Operation: Give Back program.

About Navy Federal Credit Union: Established in 1933 with only 7 members, Navy Federal now has the distinct honor of serving over 9 million members globally and is the world’s largest credit union. As a member-owned and not-for-profit organization, Navy Federal always puts the financial needs of its members first.
