St Lucia/Mexico – On December 17, the government of Mexico delivered two medical ventilators made in Mexico to Saint Lucia, as a gesture of friendship, solidarity and support to strengthen its health system in the fight against COVID-19.
The medical mechanical breathing devices were received by the ministry of health. The operators, technicians, physicians and nurses, will be receiving the necessary training on its installation, configuration and proper use. During the last months, the government of Mexico, through its embassy in Saint Lucia, maintained contact with the ministry of foreign affairs and the ministry of health to learn about the technical, medical and safety requirements, as well as in matter of scientific-technical cooperation procedures, in order to make the donation of the equipment a reality.
The ventilators were manufactured with 100 percent Mexican technology and by a Mexican company, and they comply with the international standards of operation and efficiency.
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mexico has been committed to addressing the emergency looking to join forces and alliances with the international actors globally and regionally and, in this regard, drafted a proposal of resolution on “International Cooperation to ensure global access to medicines, vaccines and medical equipment to face COVID-19”, which was adopted in the United Nations by consensus on April 20, 2020, with the endorsement of 179 countries as co-sponsors. At the same time, during the Mexican Pro Tempore Presidency of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), Mexico has reaffirmed its willingness to strengthen scientific exchanges and collaboration in the fields of vaccines, drugs, testing and diagnostics associated with the pandemic.
The government of Mexico reiterates its friendship, esteem and respect to the government and people of Saint Lucia, and looks forward to continue joining forces on the pandemic fight and on other international issues that are of the concern of both countries, the region and the global community.
