India to train 22 Belizean government officials in Disaster Risk Management

BELIZE / INDIA – The Ministry of Blue Economy and Disaster Risk Management, through its National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO), announced that the government of India has extended an invitation to train 22 Belizean government officials from various ministries and departments in Comprehensive Disaster Risk Management.

This fully funded initiative underscores the strengthening of international partnerships in building Belize’s disaster resilience.

The training, scheduled for March 17-28, 2025, will be hosted by the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) under India’s ministry of home affairs. This opportunity falls under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme and will equip participants with critical skills in disaster preparedness, response, climate adaptation, and post-disaster recovery.

Andre Perez, minister of blue economy and disaster risk management, expressed his gratitude for this initiative, stating:

“This partnership with India is a testament to the importance of international collaboration in disaster resilience. Belize, as a climate-vulnerable nation, must continuously enhance its capabilities, and this training will strengthen our national response mechanisms to safeguard lives and livelihoods.”

Participants will undergo intensive training in hazard assessment, disaster planning, emergency response coordination, and innovative climate adaptation techniques. The program will also include site visits and real-world case studies on disaster risk reduction strategies.

“The ministry extended its deepest appreciation to the government of India for this generous contribution toward Belize’s disaster management efforts,” said the government department press release.
