Delta details climate change fight at Global Citizen

ATLANTA, USA, (DELTA News Hub) – Delta will take center stage during this year’s Global Citizen Live events in New York and Paris, highlighting the airline’s commitment to fighting climate change and building a future of sustainable air travel.

Amelia DeLuca, Delta’s managing director of sustainability, will join a wide array of artists, performers, activists and business leaders on stage during the event in Central Park. Their message: That customers can travel on Delta knowing that carbon emissions related to their flights will be offset as part of the airline’s ambitious goal of achieving net-zero aviation.

They also will celebrate Delta’s signing of the Race to Zero, with the support of Global Citizen. The Race to Zero is a United Nations-led campaign that unites businesses, cities, regions, investors, and financial and educational institutions to commit to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 at the latest.

Organizations that have signed the campaign pledge to completely end contributions to global warming by the designated date.

Delta also is promoting the use of lower-carbon, sustainable aviation fuel made from renewable resources such as used cooking oil. The airline has committed to flying on 10 percent sustainable aviation fuel by the end of 2030.

Global Citizen features historic artists and leaders from around the world to defend the planet and defeat poverty. The 24-hour event, which can be watched online starting at 1 p.m. EDT September 25, is a part of the Recovery Plan for the World campaign focused on COVID-19, ending the hunger crisis, resuming learning for all, protecting the planet and advancing equity for all.
