CHINA / RUSSIA – Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian prime minister Mikhail Mishustin held a meeting at the House of People’s Congresses in the centre of Beijing.
The head of the Russian cabinet mentioned that the main purpose of his trip to China was to organise work between the governments of the two countries to implement all the agreements reached during the talks between the leaders of Russia and China in March.
Russian president Vladimir Putin and Chinese president Xi Jinping discussed interaction between the two states in various fields at the Kremlin and summed up last year’s cooperation.
“The main task of my first official visit to China at your personal invitation is to establish constructive interaction with my counterpart, premier of the Chinese State Council Li Qiang,” added Mishustin.
The premier said that the heads of the governments of Russia and China had agreed to hold regular meetings, including at the level of deputy prime ministers and over 80 sectoral working groups. The next meeting of the heads of the governments is due to be held at the end of this year.
For his part, the Chinese leader stressed that China was ready to step up cooperation with Russia in investment, trade and energy.
“China and Russia should exploit the broad potential (bilateral interaction), increase the level of cooperation to ensure trade, economic and investment attractiveness,” Xi Jinping, president of China
In addition, the Chinese president mentioned that Beijing intends to strengthen coordination with Moscow within international organizations such as the SCO, BRICS and G20.
Earlier, Russian prime minister Mikhail Mishustin and premier of the State Council of China Li Qiang held Russian-Chinese talks with the participation of delegations of the countries. Joint documents were signed following the meeting, as reported by the Russian embassy in China.
Recall that on Monday, 22 May, Mikhail Mishustin arrived in China on an official visit at the invitation of Xi Jinping. This trip is another step in strengthening Russian-Chinese ties.
