BELMOPAN, Belize – On the invitation of the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Rodwell Ferguson, minister of youth, sports, and transport, visited Taiwan as a part of a delegation comprised of Formosa Club members from Taiwan English-speaking Caribbean diplomatic allies.

Minister Ferguson was accompanied by Ramon Cervantes, minister of state in the ministry of sustainable development, climate change, and the disaster risk management.

The purpose of the visit was to strengthen diplomatic ties, enhance parliamentary diplomacy, and discuss mutual advantages to promote relationships among the participants.

During the visit, the delegation met with ambassador Remus Chen, Taiwan’s vice minister of foreign affairs and former ambassador to Belize. Ambassador Chen expressed his joy at meeting the Belize delegation. The group also met with Taiwan’s ministry of the environment, Taipower D/S One ─ an electric bus manufacturing company ─ and other private sector organizations.

Since its establishment in 2021 by the Republic of China (Taiwan) and its allies in Latin America and the Caribbean, the Formosa Club has persisted in promoting and assisting Taiwan’s meaningful participation and representation in international organizations.

Following his visit to Taiwan, minister ferguson will attend the Eighth Caribbean Sustainable Energy Forum in Kingston, Jamaica, from November 7 to 9.

Minister Ferguson will be joined by Jose Urbina, chief executive officer in the ministry of public utilities, energy, logistics, and e-governance, to discuss the introduction of electric buses in Belize as a means of supporting a transportation pilot project and to learn about the success of electric buses in Jamaica.
