British embassy joins 23rd edition of the Pride Parade in Guatemala

GUATEMALA, Guatemala City – British Embassy staff participated in the Pride Parade on 22 July in support of human rights of LGBTI people in Guatemala

“Deputy head of mission Paul Huggins led the Embassy’s delegation. Other countries who joined the event included the United States, Canada and Sweden. By doing so, the embassy paid tribute to the hard work of LGBTI community in Guatemala and around the world who seek to ensure human rights for LGBTI people are respected, and who work tirelessly to end discrimination,” said British Embassy Guatemala City.

The British government encourages all states to protect and advance the human rights of marginalized groups, and to support international efforts to promote tolerance and to end the discrimination and exclusion of LGBTI persons.

“We call on all Governments to eliminate laws and policies that discriminate against persons based on their sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or sex characteristics, and to combat all acts of violence targeting LGBTI persons,” noted the British Embassy Guatemala City.
