By Government Press Office | BELIZE

BELMOPAN, Belize – Jorge Espat and Senator, Bishop A. Moses Benguche, comprise the Belize parliamentary delegation attending the Advanced Professional Development and Skills-Building Residency Programme from 12 to 16 June 2023, in Edmonton, Canada.

The Residency Programme has been organized and funded by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Headquarters Secretariat, in collaboration with the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.

The Course is an extensive five-day programme aimed at examining how Members of Parliament can enhance their soft skills through different sessions being delivered by the professional and technical staff of CPA, as well as current parliamentarians and Clerks from across the CPA’s membership, all experts in professional development.

Session topics include personal goal setting, leadership principles and theories, strategic thinking and planning, cultural intelligence and stakeholder engagement, diplomacy, influencing and negotiating, campaigning, messaging and marketing, project and people management, media engagement, among others.

At the end of the programme, our members will have the opportunity to provide a TV and radio interview, which will entail an intense questioning experience utilizing the skills developed during the sessions. They will also need to draft a speech and deliver it to parliament.

The accommodation and travel expenses for Espat and Senator Bishop Benguche were made possible through the support of CPA Headquarters Secretariat.
