OAS – Alianza Evangélica Latina to promote religious freedom in the Americas

WASHINGTON, USA – The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Alianza Evangélica Latina signed an agreement March 11, to work together for religious freedom, peace and social justice in the hemisphere.

The president of the Alianza Evangélica Latina, Rubén Proietti, said the two organizations will work to advance the common values they share. “The purpose of this agreement seeks to prioritize the areas of interest we have in common, such as the proclamation of the fundamental rights of people without any kind of distinction,” said the religious leader.

For his part, the secretary-general of the OAS, Luis Almagro, highlighted the importance for the hemispheric institution of defending and disseminating religious freedom in the region and mentioned the different areas in which the two organizations can collaborate. “The fields of action of the agreement are related to the promotion of joint efforts through the realization of dialogues, forums or working commissions related to religious freedom, life and family, social assistance, education, human rights, immigration, peace and reconciliation, among others,” added secretary-general Almagro.

The Alianza Evangéliva Latina is made up of evangelical organizations from 22 Ibero-American countries.
