Nokia to deploy first private wireless 5G network in Latin America for Jacto

  • Nokia will deploy an industrial-grade private wireless 4.9G/LTE & 5G network
  • Project will help turn the 5G Smart Factory concept into reality

ESPOO, Finland – Nokia announced it has been selected by Jacto to deploy the first industrial-grade private wireless 4.9G/LTE & 5G network for the agricultural machinery industry in Latin America.

Jacto, a Brazilian multinational corporation in the machinery sector, is currently building a 5G Smart Factory in Pompeia, in the province of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Spanning 96,000 square meters, the factory will house an automated painting system with cutting-edge technology, autonomous vehicle handling and an automated storage system. The plant will also include an advanced training center.

Nokia was selected to deploy an industrial-grade private wireless network, based on the market-leading Nokia Modular Private Wireless solution using 5G NSA. The spectrum in use will be the 700 MHz band for 4.9G/LTE and the 3.7 GHz band for 5G. The network connects everyone and everything with pervasive high capacity and ultra-low latency to make the 5G Smart Factory a reality. Nokia will also provide complementary services for installation, configuration, training, and assisted operations.

Fernando Gonçalves, president at Jacto, said:

“The new plant will serve both domestic and foreign markets, with product lines for spraying, fertilizing, planting, harvesting coffee and sugar cane, in addition to precision agriculture, digital technology and autonomous vehicles. We consulted several players in the telecommunications market, and Nokia was the one that presented the best proposal in terms of quality, robustness and scalability of the product to meet our project.”

Marcelo Entreconti, head of Nokia Enterprise for Latin America, said:

“Agroindustry makes a direct impact in our day-to-day life, our well-being and creates a direct sustainable value for our society. At Nokia we are passionate for these projects, and we see their potential. We thank Jacto, a leader in mechanization technology for agriculture, to trust Nokia for this project, and we are looking forward to expanding our collaboration even further.”

Nokia industrial-grade private wireless networks deliver the robust, secure, predictable and pervasive wireless coverage required for Industry 4.0 use cases that is considered the first and most important step in manufacturing companies’ digitalization journey.

Nokia has deployed mission-critical networks to more than 2,200 leading enterprise customers in manufacturing, health, transport, energy, large enterprise, ports, webscale, and public sector segments around the globe.
