Belize – Taiwan ICDF lamb culinary workshop and field day

BELMOPAN, Belize – The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise (MAFSE), in collaboration with the Taiwan ICDF Breeding Sheep and Goat Production and Guidance System Enhancement Project (Sheep Project Phase II), held a “Lamb Culinary Workshop and Field Day” at the Agriculture Department in Eldridgeville, Toledo District on Thursday, July 25, 2024.

Thirty sheep and goat farmers, restaurant and resort owners from around the Toledo District participated in the workshop that included presentations on topics such as -1) culinary demonstration, 2) animal health, 3) nutrition and breeding management, and 4) pasture establishment and feeding strategies.

The theoretical sessions were followed by a practical session that was led by Istvan Metzger, a livestock technician, who successfully demonstrated the daily management activities of sheep farming, such as sheep feeding, sheep breeds, and vitamin application.

The workshop is another commitment of the Sheep Project Phase II to help local farmers, butchers and restauranteurs in Belize.

The governments of Belize and the Republic of China (Taiwan) are committed to working together to support Belizean farmers in strengthening the sheep and goat industry within the country.
