Suriname to host the 54th OAS General Assembly in 2024

WASHINGTON, USA – The 54th General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) will be held in Suriname in 2024, as decided Friday by the representations of the member states on the final day of the 53rd Assembly held at OAS headquarters in Washington, DC.

The minister of foreign affairs of Suriname, Albert Ramdin, announced the candidacy in the plenary of the Assembly.

The country’s delegation indicated that the offer to host the next Assembly is “a reaffirmation of its commitment to the purposes and principles of the Charter of the OAS and as a demonstration of its firm resolve to continue participating actively in strengthening the Organization,” in the draft resolution presented to the Assembly.

The date on which the Assembly will take place will be determined by the OAS Permanent Council.
