Russia becomes Egypt’s largest supplier of wheat and oil

RUSSIA, (TV BRICS) – The National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) of Egypt has received 2,255 import notifications, totalling 340,000 tonnes, on behalf of 1,100 importing companies over the past week. The consignments covered wheat, cooking oils, broad beans, and soybeans, reports Sada El-Balad, a partner of TV BRICS.

According to the NFSA, Russia became the principal exporter to Egypt followed by Bulgaria, Indonesia, and Brazil. Of the notifications received, 1,178 consignments were released under temporary clearance (a provisional admission allowing goods to enter while final inspections and duty assessments are completed) and 205 under rapid clearance (a fast-track procedure for low-risk shipments, typically processed within 24 hours).

The authority significantly tightened import-licence controls for food importers, detaining 357 consignments linked to 119 companies. This measure represents the most comprehensive enhancement to ensure the safety of imported food.

In terms of entry points, Alexandria Port handled the largest number of notifications with 812, followed by Cairo Airport with 450 and Ain Sokhna Port with 320.
