OAS – University of Sao Paulo to collaborate in police training

WASHINGTON, USA – The Organization of American States (OAS) and the University of Sao Paulo renewed their commitment to collaborate in training, cooperation and exchange of good police practices in the region.

After signing the agreement, the secretary-general of the OAS, Luis Almagro, explained that the program will create channels for “cooperation in the prevention, investigation and punishment of transnational crime,” and highlighted that “such a relevant initiative achieves its best results by having support like that offered by the University of Sao Paulo.”

Rector of the University of Sao Paulo, Carlos Gilberto Carlotti, said:

“I hope that, through the OAS, the University of Sao Paulo becomes even closer to the brother states with which we share historical and cultural similarities.”

The Permanent Representative of Brazil to the OAS, Benoni Belli, said:

“Today’s event projects the importance of the OAS for Brazilian society, showing Brazil how the OAS is an irreplaceable platform to confront common challenges in the Americas.”

The signed initiative will strengthen the activities of the Inter-American Network for Police Development and Professionalization (REDPPOL) of the OAS.
