OAS – EOM begins visit to Guatemala Monday

GUATEMALA / USA – The Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) of the Organization of American States (OAS), headed by former Paraguayan foreign minister Eladio Loizaga, begins a visit to Guatemala on Monday ahead of the June 25 general elections.

To begin the activities of the Mission in the country, the chief of mission will sign, together with the president of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, Irma Elizabeth Palencia, the Agreement regarding the observation procedures.

Specialists in electoral organization, technology, and justice, as well as observers will be part of the delegation that will hold technical meetings on the development of the ongoing electoral process at the national and local levels.

This will be the twenty-first Mission that the OAS has deployed in Guatemala. The Mission will arrive in the country in mid-June and will include 90 experts and observers.
