TAIPEI, (TaiwanToday) – Chiang Zhen-wei, head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) drone diplomacy task force, took Taiwanese manufacturers and researchers to Tokyo on July 17 to meet with Kateryna Yavorska, chair of the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce in Japan.

The ministry said the group included executives from Carbon-Based Technology Inc., Accton Technology Corp., 7A Drones Co. Ltd. and FairTech Corp., as well as the state-backed Industrial Technology Research Institute. Attendees discussed ways to expand cooperation in strategic areas such as joint system development, technology accreditation and non-red supply chain development.

MOFA said Ukraine possesses war experience, while Taiwan is known for its advanced information communications technologies and flexible small and medium manufacturers. Given the country’s tremendous production capabilities, the government will step up efforts to create more venues for other countries to gain access to Taiwanese drone components.

Yavorska said Ukraine has become a real-world drone lab as a result of the Russia-Ukraine war, leading to rapid technological development in the field. In addition to defensive drones, Ukraine is also developing dual-purpose and long-range strike drones, and using artificial intelligence in related training, she added.

The chair praised Taiwan for the breadth of its supply chain and said she hoped to see Taiwan help Ukrainian firms break away from their reliance on Chinese supply chains.

According to the ministry, the drone diplomacy task force was proposed by foreign minister Lin Chia-lung and created in October 2025, while the Global Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Academy is slated for an official launch soon to promote related cooperation with allies and like-minded partners.
