ISIL/Da’esh and Al-Qaeda: Sanctions regime prolonged until 31 October 2022

BRUSSELS, Belgium — The European Council (EU) today renewed the existing restrictive measures against ISIL/Da’esh and Al-Qaeda and persons, groups, undertakings and entities associated with them, prolonging the duration of the sanctions regime for a further 12 months until 31 October 2022.

Currently, six individuals are subject to restrictive measures, which consist of a travel ban to the EU and an asset freeze. In addition, EU persons and entities are forbidden from making funds and economic resources available to those listed.

The regime allows the EU to impose targeted restrictive measures on those who perpetrate terrorist acts, provide support to and incite such acts or recruit for ISIL/Da’esh and Al-Qaeda or their affiliates.

These autonomous restrictive measures are complementary to sanctions imposed by the UN Security Council against ISIL/Da’esh and Al-Qaida.

The decision will enter into force on the day following its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
