WASHINGTON, USA — IDB Invest approved a subordinated loan of $50 million to Banco de la Producción S.A. Produbanco in Ecuador to expand financing for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Of this amount, $20 million has already been disbursed.
This financing strengthens the bank’s capital base and enables it to expand access to credit for SMEs, including those owned or led by older adults. The operation will contribute to the country’s economic development by facilitating greater access to productive credit, promoting investment, and boosting competitiveness.
The operation will allow Produbanco to increase financing to sectors such as agriculture, construction, water efficiency, energy, electric mobility, and the circular economy.
In addition to the loan, IDB Invest will provide technical advisory services to strengthen Produbanco’s risk management capabilities, support its alignment with the ISSB’s IFRS S1 and S2 standards, and develop a comprehensive value proposition for the Silver SME and Silver Women SME segments.
This operation reaffirms IDB Invest’s commitment to economic resilience in Ecuador by promoting productive financing through the private sector.
