Final Caribbean Economic Forum to explore the region’s transition to Green Energy

By Central Bank of Barbados

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – The final edition of the Caribbean Economic Forum will answer the question, “What Does Moving to Green Energy Mean for Us?”

The programme, which is sponsored by the Central Bank of Barbados, takes place on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at 8:00 p.m. and will be broadcast live on CBC TV8 and livestreamed on the bank’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.

“Caribbean governments have signalled their intent to transition to green energy in the short- to medium-term,” said Novaline Brewster, chief of corporate communications at the Central Bank. “This change could have tremendous benefits for the Caribbean, both in terms of environmental impact and as relates to our economic development. For this forum, we’ve brought together a panel of guests who can offer valuable insights on what it will take to get us there, the challenges we are likely to face, and how we can overcome them.”

That panel comprises Nnyeka Prescod, Programme Officer, SIDS Partnerships, International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA); Racquel Moses, CEO, Caribbean Climate-Smart Accelerator; and D. Gary Jackson, Executive Director, Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE).

“We encourage everyone to tune in to what promises to be a robust discussion and to join the online conversation about this issue that affects all aspects of our lives.”

The Caribbean Economic Forum is part of the Central Bank of Barbados’ public outreach and education programme. Past discussions have focussed on food security, the multiple crises facing the Caribbean, and how the region’s ageing population crisis could impact social safety nets.
