Commonwealth Care Alliance Completes Acquisition of Vitality Health Plan of California

Vitality will now be known as CCA Health California

BOSTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Commonwealth Care Alliance® (CCA), a national, multi-state healthcare organization with proven expertise in complex care coordination and delivery, has completed its acquisition of Vitality Health Plan of California. This marks another milestone for CCA’s long-term growth strategy to achieve mission-driven geographic diversification.

Effective immediately, Vitality’s two Medicare Advantage plans, primarily in Santa Clara and San Joaquin counties, will be operated by Commonwealth Care Alliance under a new name — CCA Health California. CCA expects these two initial health plans to be the first of multiple opportunities and partnerships in the state.

“The acquisition of Vitality advances our mission and introduces our pioneering, proven and perfected care model to California for the first time,” said CCA President of Markets Courtney Murphy. “We are excited to bring our experience and expertise in innovating, coordinating and providing the highest-quality care for those who need it most to the state, and look forward to working with California’s new Office of Medicare Innovation and Integration to support initiatives aimed at high-need populations.”

The introduction of CCA Health California is another step in CCA’s growth strategy to extend its uncommon care® model and advance the CCA vision of transforming the nation’s healthcare for individuals with the most significant needs. This approach to care has demonstrated better quality and health outcomes through seamless integration, a community focus and an emphasis on the behavioral and social determinants of health that account for so many critical gaps in care.

Much like Massachusetts (CCA’s first state of operation), California is a state with integrated programs that serve Medicare and Medicaid dual-eligible individuals and a progressive market for health plans serving high-need members.
