CDB president extends deepest sympathies on the Earthquakes in Venezuela

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) extends its deepest sympathies to the people and government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela following the devastating earthquakes that struck the country on June 24, 2026. Preliminary reports indicate significant loss of life, injuries, widespread damage to homes, critical infrastructure, and public services, with several communities severely affected.

On behalf of the board of directors, management, and staff of CDB, I offer our heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost loved ones and express our solidarity with all those impacted by this tragedy. Our thoughts are especially with the injured, those who have been displaced, and the courageous emergency responders, healthcare workers, and volunteers working tirelessly to save lives and provide relief under extremely challenging circumstances.

This incident reminds us of the vulnerability shared by countries across our region and of the importance of collective action, resilience, and mutual support. As search-and-rescue efforts continue and the full extent of the damage is assessed, the Caribbean Development Bank stands in solidarity with Venezuela and the wider international community responding to this grave humanitarian emergency.

The people of the Caribbean understand the profound disruption that such events bring to lives, livelihoods, and national development. At this difficult moment, we join regional and global partners in expressing support for Venezuela’s recovery and reconstruction efforts. Venezuela is a member of the Bank, a neighbour, and longstanding partner of regional development. We remain hopeful that the strength, resilience, and determination of the Venezuelan people will guide the nation through this challenging period.

The Caribbean Development Bank conveys its sincere wishes for the safety and well-being of all affected communities and the swift recovery of those injured. Our hearts are with the people of Venezuela.
