Canada – Taiwan completes foreign investment promotion and negotiations

CANADA / TAIWAN – Mary Ng, minister of export promotion, international trade and economic development, issued the following statement announcing the completion of negotiations on a foreign investment promotion and protection arrangement with Taiwan:

“Canada recognizes the value in creating greater access to investment potential for businesses of all sizes and sectors in Canada and Taiwan. That is why Canada is pleased to announce that negotiations on a foreign investment promotion and protection arrangement have finished and Canada is working with Taiwan to ensure that the arrangement will be signed and come into effect promptly.

“Once in effect, the arrangement will contribute to strengthening trade and investment between Canada and Taiwan, creating new opportunities for investment to support sustainable growth, establish new collaborations and ensure good, well-paying jobs here in Canada.

“Today’s announcement showcases Taiwan as an important trade and investment partner, especially as Canada deepens its economic partnerships and relationships in the Indo-Pacific region as part of its Indo-Pacific Strategy.”
