BVI government to host Caribbean Meteorological Council 67

TORTOLA, BVI – The government of the Virgin Islands will be hosting the 67th Session of the Caribbean Meteorological Council (CMC67) from November 18 to 22.

Minister for communications and works, Kye M. Rymer, said the important gathering will bring together a delegation of ministers, permanent secretaries, and directors from across the region who are responsible for meteorology.

“The Caribbean Meteorological Organisation (CMO) collaborates with various weather and climate-sensitive sectors, including aviation, disaster management, agriculture, water resources, health, energy, tourism, and finance. As we witness the impacts of climate change in our region, it is crucial to engage in these discussions as these effects are not a distant concern; they are affecting us now,” Rymer stated.

The council will focus on enhancing the capabilities of CMO Member States to provide authoritative and user-friendly information and services while ensuring a sustainable observation network to support these services.

The opening ceremony of the 67th Caribbean Meteorological Council session will be open to media coverage and streamed live on the government of the Virgin Islands Facebook page. The meetings will be closed sessions.

The Caribbean Meteorological Organisation (CMO) is a specialised agency of the Caribbean Community that coordinates the joint scientific and technical activities in weather, climate and water-related sciences in sixteen English-speaking Caribbean countries (Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, St Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands).
