NEW YORK, USA – UN Secretary-General  António Guterres, condemned on Monday the attacks on Abu Dhabi’s International Airport and the nearby Musaffah industrial area, which reportedly caused several civilian casualties and have been claimed by the Yemen-based Houthi rebel group, formally known as Ansar Allah.

In a statement on Monday UN secretary-general  António Guterres, condemned the attacks on Abu Dhabi’s International Airport and the nearby industrial Musaffah area, which reportedly caused several civilian casualties and have been claimed by the Houthis. Attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure are prohibited by international humanitarian law.

“The secretary-general calls upon all parties to exercise maximum restraint and prevent any escalation amid heightened tensions in the region. There is no military solution to the conflict in Yemen. He urges the parties to engage constructively and without preconditions with his Special Envoy Grundberg and his mediation efforts with the aim to advance the political process to reach a comprehensive negotiated settlement to end the conflict in Yemen,” said the statement.

Meanwhile, Ned Price, US Department of State spokesperson said: “The United States strongly condemns the terrorist attacks in Abu Dhabi today, which struck civilian sites including Abu Dhabi’s international airport, killing and wounding innocent civilians. We reiterate our unwavering commitment to the security of the UAE and stand united with our Emirati partners.”
