ROSEAU, Dominica – The US embassy to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean announce the successful handover of two emergency operations centers in Dominica, constructed with the support of US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM). These facilities reflect the United States’ ongoing commitment to strengthening disaster preparedness and response across the Eastern Caribbean.

In anticipation of the 2025 hurricane season—Chargé d’Affaires Karin Sullivan joined Prime Minister Skerrit and senior government officials at the official handover ceremony. The event included:

  • Office of Disaster Management Emergency Operations Center Annex in Jimmit – A USD $1.7 million facility designed to enhance coordination of disaster response at the national level.
  • Satellite Emergency Operations Center and Warehouse in Portsmouth – A nearly USD $1 million facility to support emergency coordination and provide secure storage for critical supplies.
  • Additional $300,000 donation for furniture, appliances, office equipment to outfit both locations, and a forklift for the warehouse.

At the ceremony, Chargé Sullivan announced US Southern Command’s commitment to fund a new $2.1 million fire and ambulance service station in La Plaine—further reinforcing Dominica’s emergency response infrastructure.

The United States remains a steadfast partner in advancing regional security, disaster resilience, and the safety and well-being of the Dominican people. The US embassy looks forward to continued collaboration with the government of Dominica in these shared efforts.
