OAS to deploy EOM for general elections in Costa Rica

USA / COSTA RICA – The Organization of American States (OAS) will deploy an Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) for the elections that will be held on February 6 in Costa Rica, in which the president and two vice presidents of the republic will be elected, as well as 57 deputies of the Legislative Assembly.

This first Mission of the year will be headed by the former vice president and minister of foreign affairs of Panama, Isabel de Saint Malo, who also served as chief of the Electoral Observation Mission for the Ecuadorian elections in 2021, and has more than 20 years of experience in development and implementation of public policies in Latin America.

The Mission will arrive in the national territory at the end of January and will be made up of 17 specialists of eight nationalities who will combine a face-to-face and virtual work methodology and will follow up on issues related to electoral organization and technology, political financing, electoral justice, political participation of women, and campaigns and freedom of expression.

This will be the 17th time that the OAS has deployed a Mission to observe electoral processes in Costa Rica.
