Ambassador of Belize presents credentials to secretary-general of the OAS

WASHINGTON, USA – The new Permanent Representative of Belize to the Organization of American States (OAS) Lynn Raymond Young, presented his credentials today to the Secretary-General of the OAS, Luis Almagro.

Secretary-General Almagro highlighted Belize’s good relations with the OAS and recalled that the assistant secretary-general of the Organization, Nestor Mendez, is from Belize. “Ambassador Young, Belize has always played a very important role in the OAS. Your country represents both the Caribbean and Central America, which provides you with a privileged vision of the region,” added the OAS secretary-general.

For his part, ambassador Young said his country shares the same values of the OAS regarding the promotion of democracy, the strengthening of peace and security, the fight against poverty and the promotion of sustainable development. “I take this opportunity to emphasize Belize’s continued commitment to all the principles enshrined in the OAS Charter,” the Belizean diplomat said.

Belize has been a member state of the OAS since 1991.
